Jharkhand Govt submits report to Centre on MP's killing

New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) The Jharkhand Government has submmited a report to the Union Home Ministry on the gunning down of of JMM general secretary and MP Sunil Mahto by Naxalites yesterday, according to official sources.

The report was sought by the Centre yesterday in the context of the fact that an MP was killed despite having been highly protected.

The sources said Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal was in Jharkhand to review the situation in the wake of the killing.

He would return tomorrow and give his report to the ministry. The inputs given by Mr Jaiswal would also be taken into consideration while taking any steps to further beef up security measures in the state.

Home Minister Shivraj Patil has, meanwhile, convened a high-level meeting of top officials here tonight to take stock of the situation in Jharkhand.

Four men loot diamond unit, caught within two hours

Palanpur, Feb 21 (UNI) The police have arrested four people within a span of two hours after they struck a diamond unit at Dhundia Vadia area and looted diamonds and cash worth Rs 6.02 lakh. Police said the four thieves were arrested on being alarmed by factory owner Jayanthibhai Prajapati (45) and his nephew Shaileshbhai Prajapati (25). The robbers, armed with sharp weapons barged into the diamond cutting unit and injured Prajapati and his nephew greviously before decamping with the booty.....

Centre directs states to implement Domestic Violence Act

New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) The Centre has directed the states to reach out and implement the domestic violence Act by appointing protection officers, identifying magistrates and sensitising police and NGOs about the law. Minister of State for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhury told reporters here today that she has already written to the state governments asking them for full compliance and would soon send another communication setting up a deadline for it. CID searches Margadarsi Financiers offices

Hyderabad, Feb 21 (UNI) The CID today searched the offices of the Margadarsi Financiers here today. The officials had obtained search warrant from the Magistrate's Court here to investigate into the activities of the firm, police sources said. Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) strongly condemned the alleged high-handed behaviour of Margadarsi staff with journalists who visited the company's headquarters here to cover the CID search.
