ICAO asks Centre for coexistance of Dhabolim-Mopa airport

Panaji, Mar 5 (UNI) The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has asked the Centre to clear its proposal for undertaking an additional ''techno-economic feasibility'' study about the coexistence of the existing Dabolim airport in South Goa and the proposed international airport at Mopa in North Goa.

Stating this in reply to an unstarred question of Laxmikant Parsekar (BJP), Goa Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane said such a study would enable the six-member committee headed by him, to assess and evaluate the issues properly for a considered decision.

The committee, appointed by the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation to advise Prime Minister regarding the setting up of the Mopa airport had so far four sittings from February to September last.

The committee had resolved to urge the ICAO to conduct the feasibility study, for which the ICAO had sent the proposal to the Centre for clearance at the earliest, Mr Rane added.

The Centre had constituted the committee following a controversy over the proposed Mopa airport, that had even divided the ruling Congress legislators on the issue.
