HC notice to Badal, Amarinder on PIL on criminal cases

Chandigarh, Mar 5 (UNI) Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued notices for May 7 to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, former Chief Ministers Capt Amarinder Singh and Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and 11 other MLAs, on a PIL seeking directions to various courts to expedite the criminal cases pending against them.

The Division Bench of Chief Justice Vijendra Jain and Justice Rajive Bhalla issued the notices on the PIL filed by Advocate H C Arora on the basis of facts contained in the affidavits submitted by these leaders at the time of filing of nomination for the assembly polls held on February 13.

In some cases, which involve corruption, cheating, forgery, fraud and cheque bounce, the charges have been framed.

The others who were issued notices by the division bench are Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, Sohan Singh Thandal, Sucha Singh Langah, Ajit Singh Kohar, Raminder Singh Bolaria, Capt Balbir Singh Bath, Manpreet Singh Badal and Nirmal Singh Kahlon (all from SAD), Raj Kumar Khurana, Satpal Gosain (BJP) and Joginder Singh Panjgrain (Cong).

Accident averted at Karipur airport

Kozhikode, Feb 28 (UNI) An accident was averted at the Karipur International Airport here after one of the tyres of the Air India flight from Sharjah burst. The tyre burst occured when the Indian Airlines IC 596 landed at the Airport in the morning, sources said and added it was brought to safety without any problems. Karnal, Mar 5 (UNI) A local court today awarded life imprisonment to two persons for pushing a man out of a moving train, leading to his death.
