Fire at Chinubhai Towers in Gujarat

Ahmedabad, Mar 5 (UNI) A fire broke out early today at the Chinubhai Towers building at the Ashram Road here, reducing to ashes several offices of the Torrent Power AEC.

The fire broke out at 0500 hrs, destroying most of the offices of the power company.

Additional Chief Fire Officer M F Datur said a short-circuit sparked the blaze in the building.

There were no reports of any casualties. However, preliminary reports suggested the losses to be around Rs one crore.

A fire tender and four tankers were pressed into service to put out the blaze. It took the fire personnel one hour to douse the fire.

HC asks EC to hold Beas polls before Feb 27

Chandigarh, Feb 22 (UNI) The Punjab and Haryana High Court today asked the Election Commission to hold the Assembly polls to the Beas Assembly constituency before February 27, the date of counting of votes in February 13 Assembly polls in rest of Punjab. The EC had fixed March 11 as the polling date after postponing polling in the constituency following violence on January 29 in which one person was killed and some others were injured in the clash between rival groups......
