Fiji minister discusses tourism with Ambika Soni

New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) Fiji Foreign Affairs and External Trade Minister Ratu Epeli Nailatikau called on Tourism and Culture Minister Ambika Soni here today and discussed measures to promote and strengthen tourism and cultural ties between the two countries.

During their 40-minute meeting, the two leaders exchanged relevant information and statistics with regard to tourist arrivals, targets, projection and infrastructure facilities.

Pilgrimage and Bollywood are other attractions which are being marketed and promoted in Fiji, having 43.6 per cent population of Indian origin.

The market of Fiji falls under the jurisdiction of 'India Tourism Sydney'. It is responsible for promoting India as a tourist destination in Fiji.

India Tourism Office started promotional activities after the improvement of political and economic situation in Fiji by launching a 'Discover Your Roots' programme.

An agreement on tourism cooperation was signed between the two countries during the visit of the Prime Minster of Fiji to India in October 2005.

Ms Soni briefed the visiting dignitary about the electoral reforms in India and the proposed Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament.

A total of 2,351 tourists arrived in India from Fiji in 2005.

Police pulled up for not providing force for cleaning Yamuna banks

New Delhi, Feb 21 (UNI) Delhi High Court today asked Delhi Police to specify a date within a week to provide force for demolitions of illegal structures on the river Yamuna banks near Okhla industrial area in south Delhi. When Delhi Development Authority(DDA) Counsel Rajiv Bansal submitted that the Delhi Police did not supply the force during the demolition drive at Batla House Extension and Bela Road Extension recently, a bench of Chief Justice M K Sarma and Justice Rekha Sharma.....

SC to re-examine ban on Pappu Yadav's bail application

New Delhi, Feb 21 (UNI) The Supreme Court has decided to re-examine its judgement directing that no court in the country will entertain the bail application of RJD MP from Bihar Rajesh Ranjan, alias Pappu Yadav, who is in Tihar Jail in connection with the murder of CPI(M) student leader Ajit Sarkar. KGBV scheme implementation unsatisfactory:Parliamentary panel

New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) A Parliamentary panel has expressed its dissatisfaction with the progress of the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya scheme. Asom, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal have been found to be most lax in implementing the scheme, said the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Human Resource Development in its 187th report tabled in Parliament. The KGBV scheme had been launched in August 2004 for setting up initially 750 residential schools at upper primary.....
