Dr Prasad appointed Vice Chancellor

Bhopal, Mar 5 (UNI) Former Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS officer Dr Bhagirath Prasad has been appointed Vice Chancellor of Indore's Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, the government announced today.

Governor Dr Bal Ram Jakhar, who is also the Chancellor, today issued the order appointing Dr Prasad for a four year term from the date he assumes the charge, official sources said.

The 1975 batch IAS officer, Dr Prasad held the rank of Principal Secretary when he resigned last month, few months ahead of superannuation.

His wife Mehrunnisa Pervez is a prominent writer.

Bench Bar concern over NRI wives in distress

New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) Voicing concern over abuse suffered by many Indian women married to non-resident Indians or others settled abroad, judges, lawyers and activists have suggested a counselling or remedy system to which victims, including children, may turn. The suggestions were among many made last evening at a seminar sponsored by a law firm and attended by a panel of India's senior Judges led by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan. But the presentations brought questions whether it was fair.....

Proposed demolition of 'Ram Setu' opposed

Rajkot, Mar 5 (UNI) The Hindu Dharma Acharya Sabha has strongly opposed the proposed demolition of the Ram Setu under a shipping canal project. The National Secretary of the Sabha, Swami Parmanand Saraswati, while addressing a press conference here today said seers and Jagat Guru Shankracharya would meet in Delhi on March 9 to chalk out an action plan to register their opposition. Vikas Yadav seeks stay on conviction citing Sidhu's case

New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) Vikas Yadav, who is the main accused in the Nitish Katara murder case and has also been sentenced to four years Rigorous Imprisonment for destruction of evidence in Jessica Lall murder case, has moved the Supreme Court seeking a stay on his conviction relying on its judgement in the case of cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu. Yadav, in his appeal, has contended that his case was similar to that of Sidhu, convicted by the Punjaband Haryana High.....
