CPI-M leader files nomination

Hyderabad, Mar 5 (UNI) Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Ch Sitaramulu today filed his nomination papers for the election to state Legislative Council scheduled on March 17.

The CPI-M leader, accompanied by party MLAs, submitted his nomination papers to Returning Officer Tuljananda Singh at the Secretariat.

Mr Sitaramulu is the first candidate to file nomination under MLA quota.

The opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) had extended support to Mr Sitaramulu in the election.

At present, the Left parties had nine MLAs in the present Assembly.

SP announces new candidate for Khurja

Lucknow, Mar 6 (UNI) The ruling Samajwadi Party (SP) today announced a change in the candidature from Khurja Assembly constituency of the Bulandshahr district. Earlier, Suman Kumar Singh's name was announced by the party but now Virendra Pratap Singh Raghav will contest from 363-Khurja Assembly seat, SP general secretary and state PWD minister Shivpal Singh Yadav told mediapersons here. The decision was taken by SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav. The seven-phase Assembly polls would commence April 7, 2007. UNI.....

Cong true guardian of minorities: Lalu

Udaypura, MP, Mar 6 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today claimed that the Congress is the sole party that is the ''true protector of minorities' interests'' and preparations are underway for ensuring their development by implementing the Sachar Committee's recommendations. ''It is because of Congress President Sonia Gandhi that a minority community's representative Manmohan Singh occupies the Prime Minister's post,'' he said while addressing an election rally in this assembly constituency's Begumganj, in Raisen district, to drum up support for Congress.....

I will avenge insult of Kanshi Ram: Maya

Gwalior, Mar 6 (UNI) Bahujan Samaj Party supremo and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today warned the ''insult of late BSP President Kanshi Ram'' would be avenged by her at New Delhi and Lucknow. ''The Centre and Uttar Pradesh regime did not declare even a day's mourning after BSP founder Kanshi Ram's demise,'' she said while addressing a poll rally in favour of party nominee Kedarsingh Bidhudi on the last day of canvassing for the March 8 byelection to this.....
