Cognizant opens trading in Nasdaq

Chennai, Mar 5 (UNI) In a grand ceremony, leading IT solutions provider Cognizant Technology Solutions Corporation today opened trading in Nasdaq by ringing the opening bell from its techno-complex centre at 2000 hrs IST here.

Ringing the bell commemorates the multiple performance milestones of the company. Cognizant became the second largest Indian Nasdaq listed company with a market capital of 12 billion US dollars.

It was an evening with glitterati gracing the occasion, as Cognizant, the US-based provider of IT and business process outsourcing services, and Nasdaq co-hosted celebrations in Chennai and New York City, where it was 0930 hrs, at Nasdaq's Market Site.

The top honchos of Cognziant and its full management team led by Francisco D'Souza (President and CEO) along with Lakshmi Narayanan (Vice-Chairman), Chandrasekaran (President and Managing Director, Global Delivery), Gordon Coburn (Chief Financial and Operating Officer) and Raj Mehta (COO, Global Client Services) in Chennai and its industry practice heads in the US participated at the function at the sprawling Cognizant complex and at Nasdaq in the US.

The Nasdaq Remote Opening Bell ceremony was a recreation of the daily opening bell that takes place in the Nasdaq studio.

Nasdaq recreated the MarketSite Opening Bell ceremony from Cognizant's facility in India by displaying the electronic podium and traditionally signing into the market. The opening and closing bell events were symbolic ceremonies that represented the open and/or close of Nasdaq trading day, which brought together investors and market participants from around the world to trade electronically.

The bell was greeted with wild cheers from thousands of Cognizant staff and top officials of both Nasdaq and Cognizant hugged and shook hands with Chief Guest US Consul General David Hopper to mark the occasion.
