CM denies difference in Cabinet over ADB loan

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 5 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan told the State Assembly today that there had been no difference in his Cabinet over availing the Asian Development Bank (ADB) loan for Sustainable Urban Development Proects being implemented by municipal corporations in the state.

Replying to a submission by Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy, he said all proceedings in this regard were done in the most transparent way.

A special Cabinet meeting on March two had ratified the agreement signed with the ADB on December eight, he said and alleged the Opposition was trying to create confusion over the issue for political ends.

Earlier, Mr Chandy urged the Chief Minister to clarify his stand on availing the Rs 1,500-crore loan pointing out media reports over differences in the Cabinet on the issue.

Croc gives jitters in TN hamlet

Tiruchirapalli, Mar 5 (UNI) Residents of the Kaikatti Village, a sleepy hamlet on the banks of 'Pullambadi Vaikkal' of this district, had an unexpected and awesome visitor--a crocodile--early today. The reptile was found crawling in the village inviting a large number of curious on lookers. However, two youths --Ramesh and Balakrishnan--managed to lasso the crocodile with great difficulty and handed it over to Forest Department. The crocodile was kept in the Kilikkoodu Crocodile Farm at Grand Anaicut in Thanjavur. UNI.....

Centre nod for IISER in Kerala: CM

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 5 (UNI) The Centre has accepted in principle to set up an Indian Institute of Science, Education and Research (IISER) here, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan informed the State Assembly today. Replying to a Calling Attention motion by Mr G Karthikeyan (Cong), he said Secretary for Higher Education had been asked to identify a suitable piece land for the project. Mr Achuthanandan said though the Centre had sanctioned Rs 100 crore for the development of the Government Medical College.....

Government to release 3,65,000 tonnes of wheat to states

New Delhi, Feb 20 (UNI) In an effort to check the rise in open market prices, the Government today decided to release a total of 3,65,000 tonnes of wheat to states for sale under the Open Market Sale Scheme (Domestic) during this month and March. The wheat will be released by the FCI to the state governments at the price of Rs 986.06 per quintal for distribution to consumers through State Level Institutions/Corporations or Agencies whose work shall be directly supervised.....
