CJs of Allahabad, Calcutta HCs appointed

New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) Justice Hemant Laxman Gokhale and Justice Surinder Singh Nijjar have been appointed Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court and Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court, respectively, it was announced today.

The appointments of Mr Justice Gokhale, judge of Bombay High Court and Mr Justice Nijjar, judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court, will be effective from the date they assume charge of their new offices, the Law and Justice Ministry said.

TNAU welcomes Budget allocation

Coimbatore, Feb 28 (UNI) Tami Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) Vice Chancellor Dr C Ramasamy today said the university welcomed special allocation of Rs 50 crore to the TNAU in the union budget. Delhi to renotify MCD wards, SDC submits fresh draft formula

New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) The State Delimitation Commission(SDC) today submitted a fresh draft formula before the Delhi High Court which would be the basis of reservation of constituencies for women and Scheduled caste(SC) candidates for the coming MCD election. Justice B D Ahmed directed the SDC to submit the fresh draft by the evening, on the basis of which the judgement would be pronounced tomorrow. SDC Counsel submitted that the commission had formulated a new method to reserve the constituencies......

Three from Rajasthan drown in Sharavati river

Shimoga, Karnataka, Feb 28 (UNI) Three youths hailing from Rajasthan drowned in the Sharavati river near the famous Jog Falls, about 140 km from here, today. Police said 13 carpenters from the desert State had come to Ramachandrapuram Mutt on the banks of the river for work. Three of them went to the backwaters of the Linganamakki dam to take a bath when they fell into the deep waters and drowned. The deceased were identified as Lakshman (18), Pawan Kumar (22).....

HC allows hotels to charge more for a water bottle

New Delhi, Mar 5 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today held that a hotel or restaurant could charge more than the maximum retail price (MRP) for a bottle of mineral water from a costumer. Justice Vikramajit Sen said, ''Charging prices for mineral water in excess of the MRP printed on the packaging, during the service of customers in a hotel and restaurant does not violate any of the provisions of the Standards of Weights and Measures Act(SWM Act), 1976.'' City college sings MOU

Coimbatore, Feb 28 (UNI) The city-based Nehru college of Aeronautics and Applied Sciences here signed an MoU with Hochschule Bremen, University of Applied Sciences, Bremen in Germany today. The MoU was signed by the P K Das, Director of the Nehru College and German University Deputy vice chancellor Prof Dr Uwe. Mr Das told newsmen that the MoU would focus on a four-year engineering degree course with the University along with Pilot training courses which include an engineering degree from German.....
