Building collapses

Chennai, Mar 5 (UNI) Mobile phones and accessories worth Rs ten lakh were damaged when a 75-year-old building housing the cellular phone showroom at Purasaiwalkam in the city collapsed early today.

Police said attributed the reason to construction work on a basement in the adjacent premises. However, nobody was injured.

Chandigarh, Feb 20 (UNI) The Haryana Renewable Energy Development Agency (HAREDA) today signed MoUs with seven Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to generate 686 MW of power through 21 biomass and four wind energy based power projects at a total cost of Rs 3,300 crore. The MoUs were signed in the presence of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan here. Youths killed in mishap

Kancheepuram, Mar 5 (UNI) Two youths were killed when their motorcycle was hit by a government bus on the GST Road here yesterday. Police here said Haridas (20) and his friend Palani (19), both from Chennai, were proceeding to Hanumanthapuram Koil from Kundrathur when the bus going to Tiruvannamalai hit them. In the impact, the duo were thrown off the vehicle. While Haridas died on the spot, Palani, who sustained serious injuries, breathed his last en route to the hospital. UNI.....

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 5 (UNI) As part of efforts in wiping out corruption in the state Civil Services, the government would take all measures to strengthen the functioning of State Vigilance and Corruption Bureau, Kerala Chief Minister told the Assembly today. Haryana amends tax rules for Brick Kiln Owners

Chandigarh, Feb 20 (UNI) The Haryana Cabinet today decided not to revise the lump sum (tax) rates for Brick Kiln Owners (BKOs) till September 30, 2008 in view of the hardship being faced by them. It was decided to amend the Haryana Value Added Tax Rules, 2003 in this regard.
