BJP worker hacked to death, bandh called

Kannur, Mar 5 (UNI) A BJP worker was hacked to death at Thekke Panoor near Thalassery, about 40 Km from here, last night.

The victim was identified as P Valsaraj Kurup (34), an advocate working in Thalassery Bar.

A five-member gang allegedly attacked him in front of his house.

He died on the way to hospital.

The body was kept at Thalassery General Hospital and later taken to Pariyaram Medical College for a post-mortem.

Kurup was a BJP candidate in the last civic body elections and a party committee member of the Peringalam Assembly Constituency.

The BJP called for a dawn-to-dusk bandh in Kannur District today.

Investigations are on and no arrests have been made so far, police said.

GSU demands magisterial inquiry into BSF killing

Shillong, Mar 6 (UNI) The Garo Students' Union (GSU) has asked the Meghalaya government to institute a magisterial inquiry into the alleged killing of a 16-year-old boy by the Border Security Force. The boy, identified as Mithun Marak, was allegedly gunned down by BSF personnel on March 3 night in state's Ryngku village bordering Bangladesh. Body of a fishermen recovered from Arabian sea

Jamnagar, Feb 24 (UNI) The Coast Guard, engaged in the search operation of seven missing fishermen, recovered the body of one of them 16 nautical miles off Jakhho last night. Police said that the body of Osman Latif Jadeja (45), recovered from the sea, had been taken to his native village Okha. Nitish express grief over killing of inspector

New train between Bhuj, Bareilly from tomorrow

Mumbai, Feb 24 (UNI) The Railway Ministry has decided to introduce a tri-weekly express between Bhuj and Bareilly stations from tomorrow. An official release here today said train No 4322 Bhuj-Bareilly Express will leave from Bhuj on every Monday, Thursday and Sunday at 1540 hrs and will reach Bareilly at 2005 hrs the next day.
