7 students in PC, 273 others get judicial custody in drugs case

Pune, Mar 5 (UNI) A local court today remanded seven youths to police custody till March 9 and 273 others to judicial custody for 14 days in a narcotics case.

Acting on a tip-off, the Rural Police had raided a hotel in Khanapur near here yesterday and arrested 280 persons, mostly youths and including 29 girls. The college-going girls and boys had come from different parts of the country for a rave party at the hotel.

Special Judge S B Mahale remanded the accused, booked under various sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and sections 25, 28, 29, 30 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

All the boys have been kept at Venutai Chauhan Sabhagruh and the girls at the Yashwantrao Chauhan Sabhagruh. They will be shifted to the Yerawada jail later.

Police suspect the hand of an international drug syndicate behind the party as some foreigners are among the arrested. The advertisement for the 'rave party' was put out on the website 'isratrance.com' under the Orkut portal.

Police had seized 10 gms of charas, 2.5 kg ganja, mobiles, 57 bottles of California Drop -- a type of drug, beer cans, 45 four-wheelers and 29 two-wheelers during the raid.

Police suspect international connection in rave party case

Pune, Mar 5 (UNI) The police suspect the involvement of Israeli and Russian drug peddlers in the rave party at a hotel in Khanapur near here from where 280 youths were arrested yesterday. Superintendent of Police Vishwas Nangre-Patil told reporters here today most of the youths hailed from affluent families. ''There is a connection with some Israeli and Russian drug peddlers. No proposal to remove 4 castes from BC list: Srinivas
