204 lakh quintal cane crushed by Coop mills in Haryana

Chandigarh, Mar 5 (UNI) The Haryana Cooperative Sugar Mills have crushed over 204 lakh quintals cane so far and have produced over 18.50 lakh quintals sugar as against 164 lakh quintals cane crushed during the corresponding period last year.

Haryana Cooperation Minister of State Meena Mandal said the Sugarfed Haryana had fixed a target of crushing 320 lakh quintals cane duirng the current season as against 196 lakh quintals cane crushed during last year.

The Cooperative Sugar Mills would be crushing about 40 per cent more cane as compared to last year, she added.

Ms Mandal said upto February 28, the Cooperative Sugar Mills had purchased 206 lakh quintals cane worth Rs 269.72 crore. Of this, Rs 192.17 crore had already been paid to farmers.

She said the Cooperative Sugar Mills were making payment to the farmers regularly within seven days to 14 days of cane supply.

In order to improve the per acre yield of sugarcane and to enhance the income to the farmers from sugarcane crop, an intensive cane development plan involving an amount of Rs 26.56 crore had been prepared for 2007-08 crop, she added.

Haryana bans sale of pesticides by 3 companies

Chandigarh, Mar 5 (UNI) The Haryana government has declined permission to three companies to stock, sell and exhibit pesticides manufactured by them in the state as their products were either found to be of substandard quality or misbranded. Haryana Agriculture Director R K Khullar said the companies which had been declined permission to stock, sell and exhibit pesticides manufactured by them were M/s Gujarat Krishi Chem Corporation, Mumbai, M/s Jaishil Sulphur and Chemical Industries, Mumbai and M/s Harenba Industries Limited,.....

Under-age marriages on rises in Northeast

Aizawl, Mar 3 (UNI) Despite several initiatives, incidence of under-age marriages have increased in six Indian states, including four northeastern states and West Bengal, reports said. The latest report of the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) 2005-06 yesterday revealed that 20.6 per cent girls in Mizoram, 41 per cent in Tripura, 40.6 per cent in Arunachal Pradesh and 30.1 per cent in Sikkim were married-off below the age of 18.
