Youth drowns in pond

Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, Mar 4 (UNI) A 10-year-old boy was found dead in a pond at Pedanindrakolanu village in Nidamarru mandal of West Godavari district yesterday.

Police said the mishap occurred when the youth Mutyala Balaji(10) went with his friends to the pond for taking bath after celebrating the 'Holi' at his residence. Balaji's friends and the residents of the area could not hear him when he cried for help before being drowned.

The youth's body was, however, fished out in the evening, police added.

Isolated rain over Coastal Andhra

Hyderabad, Mar 4 (UNI) Isolated rain occurred over Coastal Andhra even as weather remained dry over Telangana and Rayalaseema. According to the Weather Office here today, Visakhapatnam recorded a rainfall of one cm. The minimum temperatures significantly rose at one or two places over Rayalaseema and a few places over Coastal Andhra and changed little over Telangana. Parts of Maharashtra experiences power failure

Mumbai, Feb 25 (UNI) A technical snag at Padghi-Nagothane, which had resulted in tripping of power in parts of Maharashtra this evening, was rectified in phases after nearly four hours. A major power failure had hit the Western and Konkan areas from 1635 hrs due to a technical snag which occurred while charging liner at Padghi-Nagothane. Villagers refuse to accept Govt help in fire tragedy

Puducherry, Mar 4(UNI) The villagers of Davidpet near here, where 327 huts were gutted in a fire yesterday, refused to accept the Government assistance. Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy visited the village well past midnight and consoled the affected. They demanded that the Government provide them Rs One lakh under the 'Perumthalaivar Kamaraj Housing Scheme' to construct houses and accept any Government assistance expressed their refusal to other than Rs One lakh. Mr Rangasamy said a decision would be taken.....
