Villagers refuse to accept Govt help in fire tragedy

Puducherry, Mar 4(UNI) The villagers of Davidpet near here, where 327 huts were gutted in a fire yesterday, refused to accept the Government assistance.

Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy visited the village well past midnight and consoled the affected.

They demanded that the Government provide them Rs One lakh under the 'Perumthalaivar Kamaraj Housing Scheme' to construct houses and accept any Government assistance expressed their refusal to other than Rs One lakh.

Mr Rangasamy said a decision would be taken in another ten days, State AIADMK Secretary and legislator of Ouppalam constituency told newspersons here today.

Mr Anbazhagan said this was the fifth time that houses were gutted in a fire at Davidpet in his Ouppalam constituency and in July last year, 125 houes were gutted and the Chief Minister had promised Rs One lakh under the housing scheme, following which the affected people had accepted Rs 6000 provided by the Government.

Kerala Minister denies load-shedding in state

Thiruvananthapuram, Mar 4 (UNI) Kerala Electricity Minister A K Balan today stressed that the government had no plans to introduce load-shedding under any circumstances in the state.
