Nexus between ganja peddlers, naxals busted in AP

Warangal, Andhra Pradesh, Mar 4 (UNI) The district police today unearthed links between a ganja smuggling gang involved in arms smuggling and naxal groups with the arrest of 12 persons and seized of weapons and 250 kg of ganja from them.

Speaking to newspersons here, district Superintendent of Police Soumya Mishra said the gang, in course of ganja smuggling activities, came into contact with arms suppliers in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Bihar.

They also developed links with various naxal groups operating in this district like the CPI-ML(Prathighatana), CPI-ML(Praja Prathighatana) and Communist Party of United States of India (CPUSI).

They used to procure weapons from one Shahad Bhai, a native of Bakarpur in Munger District of Bihar, and Anand of Satna, Madhya Pradesh and used to supply them to naxal groups at premium rates.

The gang had so far admitted that 39 pistols and two carbines were supplied to naxalites in this district, she informed.

Gujarat NCP leader attempts immolation over hike in milk price

Vadodara, Feb 20 (UNI) City police today arrested Gujarat Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Vice President Ashok Pawar for trying to self-immolate him self in protest against the recent hike in milk prices by the Baroda Dairy. It was high drama outside the district court (Nyay Mandir) here after Pawar accompanied by about 50 of his party supporters arrived at Shahid Bhagat Singh's statue this afternoon and started shouting slogans against the hike. Sidhi's backwardness comes up for debate in bypoll

Sidhi(MP), Mar 5 (UNI) Backwardness of the tribal-dominated Sidhi district in north-eastern Madhya Pradesh is again being debated by Congress and BJP- the main stakeholders in the March 8 Lok Sabha byelection in Sidhi. The seat fell vacant as the incumbent member Chandra Pratap Singh (BJP) was disqualified after being caught in the cash-for-query scam. Gujarat minister's son held under PASA

Godhra, Feb 20 (UNI) Pravinsinh Chauhan, son of Gujarat Minister of State for Tribal Welfare and Cottage Industries (Independent Charge) Prabhatsinh Pratapsinh Chauhan, was arrested under Prevention of Anti-Social Act (PASA) today. He was apprehended from his native village by the local crime branch. Chauhan was picked up from his house in his native Melol village this evening. He had been absconding in three cases pertaining to selling of liquor. Chauhan has been sent to Baroda jail. UNI.....
