Maoist Chief Action Squadron leader arrested

Midnapur West, Mar 4 (UNI) The most wanted Maoist Chief Action Squadron leader Karu Mandi was arrested (50) last night, West Midnapur District Superintendent of Police R Rajashekharan today said.

The maoist leader was arrested from Belatikri in Lalgarh Police Station where he had been hiding for sometime after assaulting the CPI(M) local Committee Secretary.

Acting on a tip-off police swooped down on a hut and arrested him along with an automatic-Rifle, the SP said.

A narco analysis test on him will be conducted today, the SP added.

Mandi was said to be involved in fixing up the landmine in Jhitka Forest in Lalgarh, which led to killing of two police personnel and injuring about half a dozen journalists and photographers in September last year.

16 people arrested, Bajrangdal

Basirhat (Bengal), Mar 04 (UNI) At least 16 people were arrested following a clash between two rival groups at Sarberia under Sandeshkhali police station area in North 24 Parganas today. Unofficial sources said Bajrangdal members were holding a meeting on the occasion of Holi when a rival group attacked the people assembled in the meeting venue resulting in clash between them. CWDT commits patent jurisdictional error: Legal lumninaries

Reliance Com ran SMS contest but gave no prizes says complaint

Chennai, Mar 15 (UNI) Madras High Court today directed police to register a case based on a complaint, alleging charges of cheating by Reliance Communications Limited for running SMS contests and not announcing prizes, if the charge constituted a cognizable offence. Passing orders on a petition by J Udayakrishnan, a subscriber of Reliance Telephones, Mr Justice K N Basha directed the petitioner to give a copy of the complaint dated February 5, 2007 in person to the police.
