Jawan commits suicide in udhampur RR-man burns wife, self in Doda

Jammu, Mar 4 (UNI) An army jawan today committed suicide near northern command headquarters at Udhampur while the Rashtriya Rifles Jawan, who allegedly burnt his wife to death and later set himself ablaze in Doda district, also died here this morning, official sources said.

RR Jawan Ranjeet Singh, who was on leave, poured kerosene oil over his wife Neelima Devi in the kitchen of their house in Hadal village of Bhaderwah Tehsil friday night and set her ablaze, sources said.

Later, he also doused himself in kerosene oil and set himself afire.

Both were rushed to a hospital where Neelima was declared brought dead while Ranjeet, who had suffered 70 per cent burns, was referred to the government medical college and hospital Jammu.

Ranjeet breathed his last this morning, sources said.

Meanwhile, sepoy M P Mandhare Nilesh Ashok (21) of Udhampur-based 5171 ASC (Army Services Corps) battalion while on duty shot himself with his service weapon at 0555 hours, an army spokesman told UNI.

A suicide note, indicating family problems, was also recovered.

The 21-year-old soldier belonged to Satara in Maharashtra and had been on leave recently. He had four years of service.

An inquiry had been ordered into the incident.

27,221 students appear for Plus-2 exam in TN district

Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, Feb 28 (UNI) 27,221 students are appearing for the Plus Two examination at 73 centres in Kancheepuram district , according to District Primary Education Officer K Ramanjuam. Talking to newspersons here, he said the examinations which began today will continue till March 21. 1,948 students were appearing as private candidates, he added. Mr Ramanujam said this year the number of students appearing for the examination had increased to 3221, compared to 24,000 students last year . He said.....

Godhra panel may come out with interim report on train carnage

Ahmedabad, Mar 5 (UNI) The Nanavati-Shah Commission, probing the February 2002 Sabarmati Express carnage and the riots that followed in its aftermath, may first come out with an interim report on the Godhra incident, commission sources said. The Commission may first submit an interim report on the carnage alone and later its full report, dealing with both the torching of the S6 of the train and the riots that broke out, the sources said. Hindu Munnani opposes reservation for Muslims

Puducherry, Feb 28 (UNI) The Puducherry unit of the Hindu Munnani today campaigned at 20 different centres in the town to press the government not to grant any separate reservation to the Muslim community.
