India, Pak to hold first Anti-terror Mechanism meeting on Mar 6

New Delhi, Mar 4 (UNI) India and Pakistan will hold the first meeting of the Joint Anti-Terror Mechanism in Islamabad on March six to share information on and devise strategies to counter terrorist incidents in either country.

The Joint Anti-Terror Mechanism was conceived at a meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf at a meeting on the sidelines of the NAM Summit in Havana (Cuba) in September 2006. It was formally constituted in November last year when the Foreign Secretaries of the two countries met here for talks.

Consequently, both countries formed a three-member panel of senior officials who would meet and discuss strategies to counter terrorism in either country.

The Indian delegation at the talks will be led by Mr K C Singh, Joint Secretary (International Relations) in the External Affairs Ministry while the Pakstani side will be headed by his counterpart Usman Haider.

The Anti-terror Mechanism will enable the two countries to share information on and cooperate in preventing acts of terrorism.
