Holi celebrated in UP with enthusiasm and fun

Lucknow, Mar 4 (UNI) 'Holi', the festival of colours, was celebrated throughout Uttar Pradesh with religious fervour and gaiety today.

People sprinkled colours on each other and exchanged greetings on the occasion. Children were out on streets, spraying colours on their friends and the passers by.

People took out 'Holi procession' and enjoyed with their friends and families.

While in most places of the state, Holi is being celebrated today, it will continue till tommorow in Allahabad, Gorakhpur and Kanpur.

The state police headquarters here said that the festival passed off peacefully and no untoward incident was reported from anywhere so far.'' Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav celebrated the festival at his native village Safai in Etawah district, while the other political leaders are also camping in their respective areas due to the coming Assembly polls in April-May.

Due to the Assembly polls, the state police had made elaborate security arrangements for the Holi festival with the deployment of Rapid Action Force(RAF) in several senstive pockets. Special police deployment was also made in the riot hit Gorakhpur and Aligarh.

5 killed, 4 injured in UP road mishaps

Lucknow, Mar 4 (UNI) At least five persons were killed and four others grievously injured in separate road accident during the last 24 hrs in Uttar Pradesh. Police said an accident took place in Sampoornagar area of Lakhimpur Kheri, where two persons were killed and three others seriously injured after being hit by a speeding bus today. Irked over the incident, a mob staged a 'dharna' in Sampoornagar area and torched the bus, They could only be pacified after police reached.....

Hafed promotes contract farming

Chandigarh, Feb 23 (UNI) The Haryana Cooperative Supply and Marketing Federation (Hafed) has initiated contract farming in association with the Haryana Seeds Development Corporation (HSDC) in Karnal, Kaithal and Kurukshetra districts in kharif-2006. As many as 129 farmers were involved in the experiment over 795.5 acres in these districts. A Hafed spokesman said this concept of contract farming had been adopted with a view to preserve the genetic purity of basmati paddy varieties HBC-19 and CSR 30 and provide.....

Terminal Marketing Complexes to come up in TN

Tiruchirapalli, Feb 23 (UNI) In a bid to give a fillip to agro products and perishables marketing, the government will establish Terminal Market Complexes (TMC) at Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore shortly, a top official today said. Delivering his inaugural address at the VI Edition of the 'AGRICON,' the annual agricultural conference of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here, Tamil Nadu Agriculture Department Special Secretary Jatindranath Swain said the TMCs would function as a one-stop facility for perishables and agro-products......
