Court to decide on cancellation of Gawli's bail application on Mar 8

Mumbai, Mar 4 (UNI) A local court will hear the petition filed by city police praying for cancellation of bail of angster-turned- politician Arun Gawli, which was granted to him by a lower court in a fund misappropriation case earlier, on March 8.

Additional Session Judge P D Vishwasrao has directed the police to supply the copy of a petition to the respondent and then fixed March 8 as the next date of hearing, when the police had filed an application on February 28.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the city police had arrested Arun Gawli in a case of misappropriation of funds of his union Akhil Bharatiya Sena (ABS). The said fund was supposed to be distributed among the union members. However, Gawli had allegedly deposited Rs 85 lakh in his Shiv Shambu charitable trust, instead of distributing among the union members.

He was produced before the Metropolitan Magistrate for remand, However court had released him on bail with the directive to disburse the fund to the people.

The prosecution had stated in the application that releasing Gawli on bail on the first day of remand was bad in law and the court should at least give some time to the agency to investigate.
