BSF kills smuggler, five others escape to Bangladesh

Shillong, Mar 4 (UNI) BSF Jawans killed an accused smuggler in Meghalaya's Ryngku village, on the Indo-Bangla border, a senior BSF official said here today.

The incident occurred at around 2100 hours yesterday at Ryngku, when a group of six were trying to smuggle bamboo into Bangladesh, BSF DIG N S Sajjan said.

Mr Sajjan said one person was killed when the BSF personnel opened fire, following the smugglers' refusal to stop.

He said four or five others have managed to escape.

Meanwhile, he said, the BSF have seized the bamboos.

Boy killed in explosion

Basirhat, Mar 4 (UNI) A boy was killed in an explosion at Cachharipara under Sandeshkhali police station area in North 24 Parganas yesterday evening, police today said. Sushanta Sardar (8) was seriously injured as a bomb exploded when he kicked it. The boy was rushed to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, police added. UNI.....

Two people arrested in Jharkhand in connection with robbery case

Kolkata, Mar 4 (UNI) Two people were arrested at Tatanagar in Jharkhand yesterday in connection with a Rs 8.4 lakh robbery case in Purulia, police today said. Purulia Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Prasad said, ''Around Rs 5,28,000, one nine MM pistol, 16 round cartidges and a motorbike have been seized.''
