Andaman celebrates Holi with spirit of festival

Port Blair, Mar 04 (UNI) Andaman and Nicobar islands alongwith the rest of the country, celebrated Holi, the festival of colour, with zeal and enthusiasm today.

Lt Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr Bhopinder Singh has extended his greetings to the islanders on the occasion. In a message he said, " the auspicious occasion of Holi is the festival of colours, symbolic of the triumph of good over evil." He said, " Holi, as we all know, is also a time for rejoicing. It is one of the most colourful events in the cultural fabric of our country, which brings people from different strata of the society together to live happily as one family." He also wished everybody happiness and prosperity.

In his message on the occasion, lone Member of Parliament of the remote archipelago Manoranjan Bhakta urged upon the islanders to celebrate Holi with a spirit of festival. He also greeted the people of these islands on the occasion.

Villagers in Alipurduar kill one bison; 5 more still on rampage

Coochbehar, Mar 4 (UNI) A bison was killed by villagers today when a herd of eight emerged from Chilapata forest and started plundering the surrounding villages in Alipurduar. Police said, meanwhile, the villagers have chased two of the animals back into the forest. However, the rest are still on a rampage in Kuntighat, Birpara and Poropara villages. The Forest Department personnel and police are now trying to bring the situation under control, sources added. UNI.....

Holi celebrated in Bihar

Patna, Mar 4 (UNI) 'Holi', the festival of colours, was celebrated with religious fervour and gaiety throughout Bihar today as people poured colours and exchanged greetings on the occasion. Since early morning, children were out on streets, spraying colours on their friends and pedestrians. 'Pichkaris' appearing as replicas of cell phones, cars, guns, cameras, and Spiderman were used during the celebrations but 'Lalu Pichkaris','Rabri Pichkaris' and 'Krrish Pichkaris' were the most sought after items for the Holi revellers. Haryana to compensate loss of crop by hailstorm: Hooda

New Delhi, Chandigarh, Mar 14 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today conducted an aerial survey of the hailstorm affected areas in the districts of Mahendergarh, Rewari, Mewat and Faridabad to assess the damage caused to the crops due to heavy rains and intense hailstorm. He gave a compassionate hearing to the affected farmers and assured them compensation for the damage caused to their crops by April 15, 2007.
