Al-Madina and Al-Badr bans cable operators in Kashmir

Srinagar Mar 4 (UNI) Two militant outfits have imposed a ban on cable operators in the Kashmir valley.

The outfits -- Al-Madina and Al-Badr -- in a statement to local media organisations, have asked the cable operators to stop their services in the Valley.

Similar bans were imposed by different militant outfits on the cable operators in the past in the valley. Last year, cable operators suspended the transmission of all channels for about a month because of a ban. Howevere, they resumed transmission after the ban was lifted.

About a dozen cable operators were also attacked by the unknown gunmen in the valley during the past three years.

Seven injured, Auqaf buiding and mosque gutted in Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 4 (UNI) Seven persons were injured in two different road accidents while four houses, an Auqaf building and a mosque were gutted in the valley overnight, a police spoksman said today. He said a speeding vehicle hit and injured Showkat Ahmad at Samthan on the National Highway in south Kashmir district of Anantnag today. He has been hospitalised. A passenger bus overturned at Chowgund Rain in Anantnag district, injuring six passengers. The injured have been hospitalised. Fire broke out.....

UPA govt has not gone soft on Quattrocchi: Anand Sharma

Shimla, Mar 16 (UNI) Minister of State for External Affairs Anand Sharma today dismissed the NDA's charge of the UPA government going soft on Bofors accused Ottavio Quattrocchi. Addressing a news conference here, the Minister said the UPA government had taken sincere steps for Quattrocchi's extradition. He said the previous NDA government had also sent various teams to different countries in connection with the Bofors case but could not achieve anything during its six years in power at the Centre......

12 persons arrested for supplying arms to naxals

Warangal, Andhra Pradesh, Mar 4 (UNI) Twelve members of a gang involved in the supply of arms to the naxals were arrested by the district police. Talking to newspersons here today, the District Superindent of Police (SP) Soumya Mishra said 12 persons were arrested in different places in this district. Ms Mishra said based on credible information, police arrested the accused, who were also involved in ganja smuggling in other states. UNI.....
