31-year-old committs suicide over dowry harassment

Mumbai, Mar 4 (UNI) Fed-up of constant physical and mental harassment by her husband and in-laws for dowry, a 31-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging herself at her home in Vile Parle in western suburbs.

Police sources said deceased Meena Desai, took the extreme step at 1200 hrs yesterday.

They have arrested her husband Ashish Desai (31), father-in-law Madhukar Desai (73) and mother-in-law Nanda Desai (66) and brothers-in-law Hemant Desai (40) and Umesh Desai (44) for allegedly torturing Meena to bring dowry from her parents to buy a flat, sources said.

All the accused have been booked under section 498 (a) (dowry), sources added.

Constable held while accepting Rs 1000 bribe

Ahmedabad, Mar 4 (UNI) A head Constable, attached to Visnagar police station in Mehsana district, was caught red-handed for accepting a bribe of Rs 1000 on March 2. Police said Phulsi Barad was apprehended while taking money from one Kamlesh Patel, who runs a finance company. A cheque, reportedly issued to Mr Patel, had bounced and a warrant was to be issued against the defaulting party. Barad had demanded a bribe of Rs 1000 to issue the warrant. UNI.....

HC dismisses petitions challenging ZP elections

Mumbai, Mar 5 (UNI) After the Supreme Court the Bombay High Court has also refused to entertain several writ petitions challenging different aspects of ensuing Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samitee elections in the state. A division bench dismissed all the petitions challenging different aspects of the elections in view of a Supreme Court Judgment allowing no interference in the election process. UNI.....

Youth stabbed to death over old enmity in Akola

Akola, Mar 5 (UNI) Seven assailants stabbed a youth to death over an old enmity, in Akot file area here. The assailants yesterday stabbed Manoj Amrsing Sangrel (23), a sweeper, to death with a sharp edged spear several times at his residence in Bapu Nagar over old enmity, police said. The accused have been booked under sections 14, 147, 148, 149 and 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 4 (25) of Arms Act and section 135 of Bombay.....
