World Bank clears Rs 400 cr for J

Jammu, Mar 3 (UNI) The World Bank has cleared Rs 400 crore for upgradation of existing roads in the eight districts of the state, under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) guidelines.

Districts of Jammu, Kathua, Rajouri, Anantnag, Baramulla, Budgam, Kargil and Leh would be covered under the world bank project, Roads and Buildings (R&B) Secretary Shailendra Kumar told a high level meeting yesterday.

As many as 100 new road projects under PMGSY are being launched in the state during this month, of which 60 projects are in Kashmir division, he said.

Mr Kumar further disclosed that the road projects worth Rs 500 crore would be taken up by the end of May this year for which tenders have already been floated.

It was stated in the meeting that orders have been circulated to all executing agencies undertaking PMGSY schemes to clear the bills of work done by contractors within one month.

Negotiations are underway with the Jammu and Kashmir bank to arrange adequate funds for the sanctioned PMGSY projects.

Great India Bustard population declining in Rajasthan

New Delhi, Mar 3 (UNI) The population of the great Indian bustard is declining in its natural habitat in Rajasthan, according to the Ministry of Environment and Forests.
