Western Railway grants compensation to 143 blast victims

Mumbai, Mar 3 (UNI) The Western Railways' Fast Track Railway Claims Tribunal has so far granted compensation to 143 victims of the serial blasts that rocked Mumbai's lifeline on July 11 last year.

As many as 169 cases of death claims were filed in the Fast Track Tribunal. Of these, 143 victims have been compensated and the remaining cases of death claims are expected to be finalised shortly, a WR release here today said.

The serial blasts that rocked Mumbai's suburban railway line, claimed 187 lives besides injuring several hundred others.

Four miscreants arrested for municipality employee's murder

Barrackpore, Mar 14 (UNI) At least four more miscreants were arrested in connection with the murder of Kanchra Municipality employee Ashok Dubey, police said today. The arrested included Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activist Ashok Bhowmick. Police had earlier arrested three others, who were involved in various crimes in Beejpur area and seized half a dozen pipe guns and 15 live cartridges. According to police reports, Mr Dubey was killed inside the Municipality complex on January 23. Miscreants allegedly.....

Six killed in accident

Krishnanagar, Mar 3 (UNI) At least six people were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between two vehicles on NH-34 at Ghatagachi near Ranaghat police station this morning. Police said the incident occurred when an oil tanker collided with a car, carrying five passengers, who were on their way to Mayapur for celebrating Holi. While three women and two children died on the spot, the driver of the car succumbed to his injuries in the sub-divisional.....

Scribe and cameraman kidnapped in Nandigram

Kolkata, Mar 14 (UNI) A correspondent and a cameraman of a Bengali television channel were allegedly kidnapped by miscreants while covering the Nandigram incidents in East Midnapore district yesterday. Bholanath Bijuli, the correspondent and cameraman Gouranga Hazra of Tara News were still untraced and remained in the alleged captivity of CPI(M) supporters, officials of the channel today said. However, Bijuli managed to contact his office today alleging that both of them had been severely beaten up. The channel officials said though.....
