ULFA activist killed in encounter

Guwahati, Mar 3 (UNI) A hardcore ULFA activist was killed following an encounter with the Army at Raidang village under Doom Dooma police station in Tinsukia district.

Official sources here today said the dead militant was identified as Bolin Moran a member of the ''28th battalion'' of the militant group.

Sources informed that a group of ULFA militants were taking shelter at Raidang village yesterday. A team of army personnel cordoned off the area where the militants were hiding.

On being challenged by the Army, the militants opened fire and one militant was killed in the gun battle, while two others managed to flee.

The army recovered one 9 mm pistol, two empty magazines and three live cartridges from the slain militant.

Five die in separate accidents

Agartala, Mar 03 (UNI) Five people died in separate road mishaps at different places of Tripura yesterday. In the first incident, four persons were killed when a maruti car, in which they were travelling, collided with a bus at Chacrimile in Bishalgarh.While the driver of the car and another person died on the spot, two others succumbed to their injuries in hospital. Dr Venugopal says he cannot be forced to retire

New Delhi, Mar 14 (UNI) AIIMS Director P Venugopal today told the Delhi High Court that he cannot be forced to retire as it was a tenure post and his appointment had been approved by the Central Government. Modern laboratory to be set up in Tripura

Agartala, Mar 03 (UNI) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar today said a full-fledged and modern laboratory would soon be set up here to conduct any kind of tests in case of water contamination.
