Tight security in MP on holi eve

Bhopal, Mar 3 (UNI) Tight security arrangements have been put in place in Madhya Pradesh on the eve of the Festival of Colours with more than 2,000 police personnel stationed in the state capital alone.

Besides, Holika Dahan (ritual lighting of bonfires) at more than 700 locations, poetry conventions and other programmes are scheduled here today. People flocked to markets for buying colour and sweets.

The Department of Forests set up more than a dozen depots for supplying wood.

''Four companies of the Special Armed Force, one each of the Rapid Action Force and Special Task Force have also been deployed,'' said Superintendent of Police Anant Kumar Singh.

Governor, CM felicitate people on Holi

Shimla, Mar 3 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Governor V S Kokje and Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today felicitated people of the state on the eve of Holi festival. PowerGrid CMD bags Scope Excellence Award

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) Dr R P Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd has been bestowed with the Scope Excellence Award in recognition of his contribution towards growth of the company and the power sector. Assocham opposes duty cut on whisky, spirits

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) Industry chamber Assocham today strongly opposed the demand of European Union (EU) for reduction of additional custom duties on whisky and spirits, until level playing fields is provided between Indian and foreign liquor producers. ''If the additional duties on wines and spirits are scrapped under the WTO pressure, a lot of cheap whisky would flood the Indian market,'' Assocham President Venugopal N Dhoot said in a communication to the government.
