Seven killed in accident

Krishnanagar, Mar 3 (UNI) The toll in the head-on collision between two vehicles on NH-34 at Ghatagachi today rose to seven, with one more person succumbing to his injures in the hospital.

Police said the three injured, including a child, were brought to Kolkata for treatment and the child died in the hospital later.

The incident occurred this morning here Ranaghat when a milkvan collided with a car, carrying nine persons, on its way to Mayapur for celebrating Holi.

While three women and two children died on the spot, the driver of the car succumbed to his injuries in the sub-divisional hospital.

All the deceased belonged to Central Kolkata, police added.

ULFA activist killed in encounter

Guwahati, Mar 3 (UNI) A hardcore ULFA activist was killed following an encounter with the Army at Raidang village under Doom Dooma police station in Tinsukia district. Official sources here today said the dead militant was identified as Bolin Moran a member of the ''28th battalion'' of the militant group. Sources informed that a group of ULFA militants were taking shelter at Raidang village yesterday. A team of army personnel cordoned off the area where the militants were hiding......

No Bail to JMM Chief: HC

New Delhi, Mar 14 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today denied bail to Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Chief Shibu Soren, sentenced by a lower court to life imprisonment for abduction and murder of his private secretary Shashinath Jha. Rejecting Soren's petition, a Division Bench headed by Justices Manmohan Sarin and S L Bhayana said there was evidence in the case against Soren. ''There are no special circumstances warranting suspension of sentence. We are not inclined to entertain the application for suspension.....
