President, PM greet people on the occasion of Holi

New Delhi, Mar 3 (UNI) President APJ Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh have greeted the people on the occasion of Holi, saying the festival of colours highlights multi-religious harmony and goes a long way in strengthening bonds among the people.

In his message, Dr Kalam said, ''this festival of colours highlights the multi-religious harmony that hasexisted in our country for centuries and spirit of tolerance that has been the essence of our culture and civilisation.'' Extending his greetings to ''all my people in India and abroad'', the President said, ''May this year's festival strengthen fraternal bonds amongst our people and bring peace and prosperity to our nation.'' Dr Singh, in his message, said the festival of colours not only spreads cheers in people's lives but also goes a long way in strengthening bonds among them.

The prime Minister expressed the hope that ''the change of season usher in new hope for a brighter future and a new resolve to forge ahead as a Nation.

''May this festival bring happiness to all,'' he added.

Weathermen predicts pleasant Holi in Rajasthan

Jaipur, March 3 (UNI) Holi is likely to be pleasant tomorrow with the weather office predicting a dry spell over the next 24 hours. According to the meteorological office, the western disturbance has headed towards northern Pakistan. However, the temperature fluctuations continued in the state and is accompanied by cold winds which made the weather pleasant and comfortable. The state capital continued to be cold. The temperatures have been dipping over the past two days here, mapping 10.1 degree Celsius today......

HC notices to Chief Secy, Jaipur collector

Jaipur, March 14 (UNI) The Rajasthan High Court today issued showcause notices to state Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Divisional commissioner and District Collector for allowing professional dancers to perform during Holi on the Collectorate premises. The officials have been asked to file their reply within two months. Taking suo motu notice of an application filed by an independent employee in the case, Justice A K Parihar passed the orders. The application said employee Ramavtar Bharadwaj took oral permission from District Collector.....

IIHS seeks more funds from HP Government

Shimla, Mar 3 (UNI) The Indian Institute of Himalayan Studies (IIHS) of the Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) has requested the University Grants Commission (UGC) to allow the utilisation of its funds beyond March 31, 2007 for continuing with ongoing research activities. ''The IIHS has utilised a sum of Rs 3.34 crore only up till March 31, 2007 out of a total of Rs five crore allocated to it by the UGC five years ago,'' institute's 17-member research staff and nine-member adminstrative.....
