Man-eater leopard killed in south Kashmir

Srinagar, Mar 3 (UNI) A man-eater leopard was killed by hunters in south Kashmir district of Anantnag, official sources said.

They said a group of hunters alongwith wildlife and forest officials laid an ambush in the woods at Matigund in Anantnag district late last night.

As soon as the leopard arrived there, the hunters shot him dead before he could run towards the village.

This is the third such incident in which a leopard has been killed in Kashmir valley during the past five months.

About a dozen persons have also lost their lives in leopard attack in the valley during the same period.

Tutor gets life imprisonment in St Stephen's college girl murder cas

New Delhi, Mar 15 (UNI) A city court today awarded life imprisonment to a tutor for murdering a girl from capital's prestigious St Stephen's college in April 1999. Additional Sessions Judge Bharat Parashar also imposed a fine of Rs five lakh on the convict. Rs three lakh out of the fine amount would be given to the victim's family. 65-year-old woman killed in stampede; 16 injured

Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, Mar 3 (UNI) A 65-year-old woman was killed and 16 others were injured in a stampede when people rushed to get applications for domestic drinking water connections at a school in Surandai village in the district early today. According to police, the victim, K Kanniyammal, was among those who came early and had waited in front of the narrow entrance of the school since the wee hours. The number grew in size and there was a lone constable.....
