Dubai, Mar 3 (UNI) Kuwait, which was a victim of Iraqi invasion in 1990, has urged waring factions in the Gulf nation to make conciliatory efforts to establish peace and stability in the violence-torn country.
In an interviw to KUNA, Crown Prince of Kuwait Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah stressed upon the clashing sections the need to place Iraq's interests above all to "achieve solidarity and stop the bloodletting".
"The ultimate goal for all should be maintain Iraq's independence, unity of its territories, and internal security if the country was to resume its leading position among nations of the world," he said.
On Iran's nuclear activity and its impact on Kuwait, HH Sheikh Nawaf said the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) sought to keep the Gulf region free of nuclear weapons but it would not violate the right of any country to pursue nuclear activity for peaceful purposes as long as it is being monitored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in line with the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
He also emphasised that the countries neighboring Iraq should take a "solid and unified stand against terrorism" and that the region will not be safe and secure without internal stability.
On Kuwait's democratic practice and its effect on the local economy, HH Sheikh Nawaf said the Legislature, Executive and Judiciary in the country cooperate to provide stability, thus allowing the economy to flourish.
In response to a question on whether the region was still facing threats from terrorist organisations, he said terrorism had become a global problem and no country-big or small- was safe from it.
