J&K government asks Rs 137 crore for eathquake Uri from centre

Srinagar, Mar 3 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir government has forwarded a Rs 137 crore proposal to the Centre for undertaking a programme of massive infrastructure development in the areas affected in the October 8, 2005 killer quake.

Addressing a public meeting at Salamabad in Uri, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad expressed the hope that soon after the assistance was available, infrastructure building for drinking water, power, schools, hospitals and other public utilities would be taken in hand.

He expressed hope that during next one and a half year these schemes would be completed to give a new look to the entire areas that have been destructed by the earthquake in October 2005.

Mr Azad said Rs 586 crores have been distributed as relief to the affected people in Baramulla, Kupwara and Poonch districts.

Out of this, Rs 178 crores were provided in Uri alone for cases like damaged houses, relief to quake victims and injured persons.

Accompanied by Chief Justice Justice Basheer Ahmad Khan, Mr Azad also laid the foundation stone of Primary Health Centre at Salamabad.

The Rs 28.20 lakh project has been fully funded from Chief Justice's Relief Fund and will be completed within six months.

The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and the Army in particular for their support and assistance provided to ameliorate the suffering due to the devastating earthquake that rocked various areas of the state like Uri, Tangdar and Poonch.

13 Killed, 47 injured in road accidents in UP

Lucknow, Mar 3 (UNI) At least 13 people were killed and 47 wounded in separate road accidents during last 24 hours in Uttar Pradesh. Police said an accident occurred on Chibramau area of Kannauj today, where a speeding Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus collided head-on with a truck, killing three people on the spot. The seven injured were rushed to hospital in a critical condition. In a separate incident, a woman was killed and 10 others severely injured.....

Gauhati H C directs gov to allot 3% job reservation to disabled

Guwahati, Mar 15 (UNI) A Division Bench of Gauhati High Court has directed the Asom government to adhere to the 3 per cent reservation for jobs for disabled persons as stipulated in the Persons with Disabilities(PD) Act, 1995.
