Intense cold wave in HP

Shimla, Mar 3 (UNI) Piercing cold wave conditions are prevailing in Himachal Pradesh after heavy snowfall and widespread rains in the state during the last few days.

The minimum temperature at Shimla town rose by a few notches to stand at 1.8 degrees Celsius as against 1.5 degrees Celsius recorded yesterday.

The sky was mainly clear today and the met office said rain or snow was expected at isolated places in the state during the next 24 hours.

Kalpa in Kinnuar district recorded a night temperature of minus 5.6 degrees Celsius, while the minimum at Keylong, the district headquater of Lahaul Spiti, stood at minus 6.1 degrees Celsius after receiving the winter season's heaviest snowfall during the last few days.

However, there was no report of rain and snow in the state during the last 24 hours, the met office said.

It added that the minimum temperatures at Sundernagar and Bhuntar stood at 6.2 and 4.6 degrees Celsius, while Una town and Solan town recorded night temperatures of 4.5 and 7.5 degrees Celsius respectively.

Three businessmen arrested for Rs 10 crore tax evasion

Hyderabad, Mar 14 (UNI) The Directorate General of Central Excise Intelligence (DGCEI) has detected a significant evasion of Central excise duty and misuse of Cenvat credit scheme by three citybased aluminium extrusion manufacturers. The regional unit of DGCEI has estimated the tax evasion at around Rs 10 crore, according to a release here today. Nun's killer offers flowers at her grave

Indore, Mar 3 (UNI) It was a victory of good over evil when Samandar Singh, after spending 12 years in jail, could not stop himself from tearfully offering a handful of flowers on the grave of Sister Rani Maria whom he murdered on February 25, 1995. On the nun's 12th death anniversary, Singh reached her grave at Dewas district's Udainagar. HTEU challenges land sale in city

Chennai, Mar 14 (UNI) The Hindustan Teleprinters Employees' Union (HTEU) has challenged the sale of 11 acres of land situated in Guindy, a prime location in the city through e-auction for the sum of Rs 298 crore by Hindustan Teleprinters TD (HTL). A division bench comprising Justice S J Mukhopadhya and Mr Justice R Sudhakar, before whom the petition filed by the HTEU came up for hearing, directed the Union Government and four others to file their counters and adjourned further.....
