HP Government clears Rs 1,406.93 cr new investment

Shimla, Mar 3 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Government today cleared Rs 1,403.93 crore new investment proposals in the state, taking the total investment to Rs 24,881 crore during the last four years.

The 26th meeting of the State Level Single Window Clearance and Monitoring Authority, held under the Chairmanship of State Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh here today, cleared the proposal to set up eight more industrial units at the cost.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Singh said the investment has a potential to employ 3.13 lakh people in 8,678 industrial units that had been granted permission to set up their units in Himachal.

He said over 81 per cent of the state's population have been provided employment in the industrial sector alone with the state government strictly implementing 70 per cent employment to youth of the state in the industrial units.

Labour officers have been appointed to ensure that units employ 70 per cent of the people from the state besides ensuring that the labour was not exploited, he said.

The Chief Minister said the Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh Development Authority had been set up for the planned infrastructure development of the industrial areas.

The government was also encouraging industrial housing projects in these areas to provide cheap and suitable residential facilities to the people working in the industries, he said.

The industrial houses have already been directed to incorporate housing provision for their workers in the proposals.

State Industries Minister Kuldeep Kumar, Chief Secretary S S Parmar, Industries Principal Secretary Ashok Thakur and several other senior state government officials were also present during the meeting.

ICAEW to offer ACA in India

Mumbai, Mar 5 (UNI) The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England&Wales (ICAEW) today become the first UK accountancy professional body to deliver its ACA qualification in India. Under an agreement with Tata Sons, the ICAEW will initially train 49 students who are being recruited into the Tata Graduate Accounts Trainee (GAT) programme from India's top universities, into seven Tata Group companies, an official statement said. Indian economy in league with global fast growing economies: CRISIL

Mumbai, Mar 5 (UNI) The Indian economy grew at an average rate of 8.6 per cent between 2003-04 and 2006-07, which is considered the strongest ever growth stimulus in India since its independence but also puts it in the league of the fastest growing economies in the world. These and other conclusions were made in the India Outlook 2007 presented by CRISIL, providing trends and outlook for the Indian economy, manufacturing, services and infrastructure sectors. Seven rebels held, six arms recovered

Agartala, Mar 5 (UNI) Security forces nabbed seven militants of various outfits, including a banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) cadre, during the last 48 hours from different parts of the state. Police here today said, three militants, including a self-styled ''lance corporal'', were arrested by the security forces from Chawmanu police station area under Tripura's Dhalai district yesterday and four countrymade guns recovered from them.
