Court work crippled in parts of MP

Indore, Mar 3 (UNI) Court work was crippled at Ujjain, Dewas, Mandsaur and the Military Headquarters Of War (MHOW) today as lawyers went on strike in protest against yesterday's clash with the police in the wake of action against an advocate.

''The strike followed an emergency meeting in protest against police excesses and in support of a demand for action against the personnel,'' said Indore Abhibhashak Sangh Chairman Amolak Singh.

Advocate Venudhar Parida was apprehended yesterday.

During the clash, District and Sessions Judge I S Shrivastav's intervention brought the police under control.

''The police assaulted Mr Parida and treated him as if he was a ruffian. The lawyer was released on bail today,'' alleged Mr Singh.

PHDCCI lauds HP for achieving 9.3 per cent growth

Shimla, Mar 6 (UNI) The PHD Chambers of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) today congratulated the Himachal Pradesh government for achieving a growth rate of 9.3 per cent and a per capita income of Rs 36,783 during the fiscal. Welcoming the Budget proposals for 2007-08, it said though the setting up of the Baddi-Barotiwala-Nalagarh Development Authority (BBNDA) was a welcome step, such authorities should be set in other industrial areas too, it said in a statement here. Badal seeks industry help for Punjab's progress

Chandigarh, Mar 6 (UNI) Viewing the industry as a partner in progress to take the state forward, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today reiterated his responsibility to gear up the pace of progress in the border state.
