BJP seeks Hooda's resignation over attacks on dalits

Karnal, Mar 3 (UNI) The BJP in Haryana today demanded resignation of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda for ''increasing atrocities'' on dalits during his tenure.

BJP state vice president Ratan Lal Kataria, after visiting the troubled Salwan village where dalit houses were set on fire on March one, said Mr Hooda had learnt no lessons from Gohana and Mehmadpur incidents wherein dalits had suffered the upper caste fury.

Describing the alleged apathy of the Chief Minister in this regard as extremly unfortunate, he said the BJP would take up the matter in the ongoing session of Parliament.

He demanded rehablitation of the dalit families in the village on a war footing.

He also demanded Rs ten lakh compensation to the family of Manipal, a Rajput farmer of Salwan, who was allegedly killed by two dalits of the village and whose death had triggered the attack on the dalits.

Former Union Minister of State for Home I D Swami was also present in the press conference.

Intense cold wave in HP

Shimla, Mar 3 (UNI) Piercing cold wave conditions are prevailing in Himachal Pradesh after heavy snowfall and widespread rains in the state during the last few days. The minimum temperature at Shimla town rose by a few notches to stand at 1.8 degrees Celsius as against 1.5 degrees Celsius recorded yesterday. Abu Salem knocks at doors of judiciary

Lucknow, Mar 14 (UNI) Desperate to contest the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh assembly poll, incarcerated underworld don Abu Salem has knocked the doors of the judiciary. Salem has filed a writ petition in the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court challenging the non-inclusion of his name in the voter list of Azamgarh district in UP. Justice Rajiv Sharma today issued notices to UP Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Azamgarh District Magistrate and Nizamabad Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in the case. The petitioner contended.....

Three die, 8 injured in accident

Dehradun, Mar 3 (UNI) Three persons including a police head constable, were killed and seven others were seriously injured, when the vehicle they were riding turned turtle at Bajpur in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand today. Chandan Singh, 44, a police head constable, Ashok Kumar, 44, and Hayat Singh (45) were killed on the spot while eight others were injured when the Tata Sumo they were traveling in turned turtle after driver lost control at Bajpur about 0600 hrs this morning......
