21 IIM-K students bag lucrative jobs abroad

Kozhikode, Mar 3 (UNI) Twenty one students from the premier B-School, Indian Institute of Management (Kozhikode), have bagged lucrative jobs abroad for whopping salary tags ranging from 85,000 US Dollar to 1.10 lakh US Dollar per annum.

The offers were received from Olam International, Infosys Technologies, Wipro Technologies, Patni Computers, Cognizant and RPG Group for placements in the US, Europe, Middle East and inthe Asia-Pacific Region, said an IIM-K release here today.

These were among a total of 431 offers made by 88 participating companies, including multinationals, to 155 students of the 2007 batch in the final placements which concluded here last evening, it said.

The highest domestic pay offer stood between Rs 22 lakh and Rs 11.76 lakh as against the last year's figure of Rs 16.67 and Rs 11.76 lakh per annum respectively, it said.

However, there was a distinct shift in preference towards more challenging roles as close to 20 per cent of the batch gave up a better paying jobs for a role of their choice.

One of the students decided to go solo, entering into an entrepreneurial venture of marketing and distribution of high technology products.

Asom minister tells to improve tea production

Silchar, Mar 10 (UNI) Asom's urban development minister Dinesh Prasad Goala today said efforts were on for upliftment of tea sector in Asom. TN allotted only four districts under NREGS: Association

Chennai, Mar 10 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Farmers Employees' Association today said the Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram in his recent budget had allotted only four districts in Tamil Nadu under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) implemented last year.
