Women's day: K'taka Govt announces awards

Bangalore, Mar 2 (UNI) The Karnataka Government today announced 23 awards, including four in the name of Ms Yashodamma Dasappa, the first woman Minister of the State, to individuals and institutions who had contributed to the welfare of women.

Karnataka Women and Child Development Minister H K Kumaraswamy told reporters here that six institutions such as Shree Shakthi Groups and Swasahay groups, eight individuals and five special awards would be given away for promoting the cause of women.

The four new awards instituted this year in the name of Ms Dasappa have been bagged by Vidya Shree Shakthi Group, Shikaripura taluk, Mookambika Shree Shakthi, Mandya taluk, Jai Amba Shree Shakthi, Dharwad Rural, and Gayathri Stree Shakthi.

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy would give away the awards at a State-level function here on March eight, the International Women's Day, he said.

Lokayukta complaints against police inefficiency

Madikeri, Mar 2 (UNI) Karnataka Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde has lodged a complaint with the State Government against inaction of Kodagu police who failed to respond in time following a road mishap near madikeri last week. RIA inaugural conference begins tomorrow

Bangalore, Mar 2 (UNI) The first Annual Conference of Rabies in Asia (RIA) Foundation, a body of experts formed to evolve practical strategies to reduce the burden of rabies in Asia, will be held in the city from tomorrow.
