TV artiste and lover surrenders in Court

Chennai, Mar 2 (UNI) Popular TV artiste Devi Priya and her beau Isaac Williams today surrendered before a Magistrate Court in connection with a threat case filed against them by the latter's second wife.

The duo surrendered before the Ninth Metroplitan Magistrate Court Saidapet and obtained anticipatory bail.

Later talking to mediapersons, Devi Priya denied reports that she had secretly married Issac on February 19 and said, ''We would enter into the wedlock after informing everyone''.

The actress and Isaac, a poultry farm owner, had planned to get married on February 19.

Hearing this, Isaac's first wife Stella lodged a complaint at the all-women police station at Adyar stating that her former husband was yet to return about 45 sovereign of jewellery and Rs 45,000 cash given to him as dowry and wanted to initiate criminal action against him.

Acting on the complaint, police arrested Isaac's mother Glory Jayaraj, when another complaint came against him, this time filed by his second wife Hemamalini, who alleged that Isaac and Devi Priya had threatened her for opposing the marriage.

When police spread a dragnet to nab them, Devi Priya moved the High Court and got conditional bail. As part of fulfilling the conditions, the duo surrendered before the Magistrate court and got bail.

Defamation case : Vaiko appears before court

Chennai, Mar 2 (UNI) MDMK General Secretary Vaiko today appeared before a Sessions Court in connection with a defamation case filed against him by the Tamil Nadu government for his alleged defamatory remarks against Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. Principal Sessions Judge V Periakaruppiah, before whom Mr Vaiko appeared, adjourned further hearing in the case to April 19. Mr Vaiko, in the aftermath of two senior leaders -- L Ganesan and Gingee Ramachandran -- raising a banner of revolt, had on December.....

CII welcomes budget

Coimbatore, Feb 28 (UNI) The Confederation at Indian Industris (CII)Coimbatore Region, Chairman Jaasyakumar Ramadas today said the budget presented by Union finance Minister P Chidambaram was balanced. He said the allocation to strengthen all the 1396 ITI's in the counry would help produce skilled workers for industries. Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ICCI) president D Balasundram said the pump industries had demanded removal of import duty for copper products. But in the budget, the finance minister has only reduced import.....

CB-CID yet to crack 'missing' gold coins case

Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh, Mar 2 (UNI) The CB-CID is yet to crack the sensational case involving the disappearance of Rs 50 lakh worth gold coins despite the passage of three months. Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Executive Officer A P V N Sharma told UNI here today the case was handed over to the State Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) three months ago and investigations were continuing. The daring crime came to light when as many as 300 gold coins went.....
