Three died as truck ramms into a hut

Samastipur, Mar 2 (UNI) Three people were killed when a sugarcane ladden truck rammed into a roadside hut near Singhiya Dhala under Bibhutipur police station area here tonight.

According to police, the truck rammed into the hut and overturned in course of giving pass to an official vehicle. Three people who were present in the hut died on the spot whereas several others were still trapped inside the hut.

The truck was on way to Hasanpur from Samastipur.

The police said that District Magistrate and Police Superintendent have rushed to the spot to monitor the rescue operation.

Youth burnt alive over illicit relationship

Mahoba, Mar 11 (UNI) A youth was burnt alive after unidentified miscreants set him afire in this district of Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred in Pahreta under Kharela police station area, where the youth was murdered and later, his body was dumped in a well. The body was recovered today and efforts were on to identify it, police said. Collieries are on the verge of closure

Asansol, Mar 2 (UNI) Authorities of Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL) have recommended closure of 17 collieries in and around Asansol, Chairman and Managing Director of Eastern coalfields Dipak Chakraborty said today. Speaking to mediapersons at the Eastern Coalfields headquarters in Dishergarh, 30 km from here, Mr Chakraborty said, ''These collieries were running yearly losses of nearly Rs 300 crore. ''However, that will not affect the retrenchment of the present employees as they will be transferred to other collieries,'' he.....

Jethmalani concerned over political interference in judiciary

Jammu, Mar 11 (UNI) Former Union Law Minister Ram Jethmalani expressed concern over growing political interference in the legal system and said judiciary was an independent body which should be free from all kinds of interventions. Addressing a seminar on 'Whither Criminal Justice System?' held at High Court Complex here on the eve of conclusion of diamond jubilee celebrations yesterday, Mr Jethmalani said the criminal justice system was not at fault and added the system needs to be improved for ''restorative.....
