Ten arrested for arson in dalit colony

Karnal, Mar 2 (UNI) Ten people were arrested in connection with yesterday's attack on a dalit colony in Salwan village of the district.

Superintendent of Police Sibas Kaviraj said today that police arrested ten people and booked as many as 80 in this connection.

The miscreants had attacked the dalit colony, vandalised several houses and set fire to some of them.

The SP said five houses were damaged in arson while the number of those vandalised was over 50.

Deputy Commissioner B S Malik said the Red Cross has allocated a sum of Rs five lakh for the affected families.

Tennis coach held under Domestic Violence Act

Chennai, Mar 2 (UNI) Prominent player-turned-tennis coach Suresh Kumar was today arrested under the Domestic Violence Act. Acting on a complaint from his wife Deepa Natarajan, a software engineer, police arrested him at suburban Neelangarai. He was produced before a court in suburban Tambaram and remanded in 15 days' judicial custody. He was later lodged in the newly constructed jail at Puzhal. Budget evokes mixed response in Automobile Industry

Chennai, Feb 28 (UNI) General Motors company today expressed that the new budget proposal was not in line with the expectation of the automobile sector.
