State-wide demos by AIADMK over ration cards, cooking gas

Chennai, Mar 2 (UNI) The Opposition AIADMK in Tamil Nadu today staged a state-wide demonstration demanding immediate issue of fresh ration cards and uninterrupted supply of cooking gas cylinders to the people.

As directed by supremo J Jayalalithaa, party volunteers staged a protest demonstration against the DMK government in front of district and taluk headquarters.

In the city, AIADMK volunteers led by former Minister and Fisheries wing secretary D Jayakumar carried empty gas cylinders and shouted slogans denouncing the state government for not issuing fresh ration cards.

''Empty cylinders here, where is the gas?....where are ration cards'', party MLA Sekar Babu and other members shouted in front of the District Collectorate.

Similar agitations were held in other parts of the state. Newly appointed AIADMK Presidium Chairman E Madhusoodhanan led the protest in Erode, while former Ministers and MLAs, O Panneerselvam and K A Sengottaiyan led the stir in Theni and Dindigul districts.

In Madurai, party treasurer T T V Dinakaran led the protest demonstration. Led the agitation in Tiruvallur, Tiruvannamalai and Vellore districts are AIADMK Organisation secretary Visalakshi Nedunchezhiyan, former Minister S Muthusamy and E V K Sulachana Sampath.

Govt says no orders passed AC bars

Chennai, Mar 2 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu government today denied passing any order for opening air-conditioned bars in TASMAC retail outlets selling Indian Made Foreign Liquor in the state. Reacting to reports in a section of the press that the government had issued orders to open 300 A/C bars and fixed an entry fee of Rs 10 per head, an official release here said the government had not issued any such order. Meanwhile, police arrested five people in charge of TASMAC.....

BEL Pays Rs 24 Cr Interim Dividend

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) Registering a hattrick, the defence public sector undertaking Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) today paid interim dividend to the Government -- Rs 24 crore this time. A cheque for Rs 242,758,400 -- as interim dividend for the current financial year 2006-07 -- was presented to Defence Minister AK Antony by BEL Chairman& Managing Director VVR Sastry here.
