SC grants two weeks to Telgi's wife for proving innocence

New Delhi, Mar 2 (UNI) The Supreme Court today granted two weeks' time to Shahida Abdul K Telgi, wife of Abdul Karim Telgi, the kingpin in the Rs 2250 crore fake stamp paper scandal, for filing additional documents proving her innocence.

While hearing the bail application of Shahida, a bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice R V Ravindran observed,'' You are fully involved in the scam and you have been making payments of money and you are aware of all the facts concerning the case. You are not innocent.'' Shahida had challenged the Bombay High Court judgement dismissing her bail appilication on the grounds that she was innocent and was not involved in the scandal at all.

The investigation of the multi-crore scandal had spelled doom for over a dozen senior police officers of Mumbai Police including commissioner R S Sharma who were arrested and lost their jobs for helping and colluding with Telgi to perpetrate the scam cutting across states and union territories.

At one stage the names of Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar and Maharashtra minister Chagan Bhujbal also cropped up during the investigations but no evidence could be found against them.
