BJP meet on Mar 10 to finalise UP poll candidates

Lucknow, Mar 2: An upbeat BJP is likely to release its first list of candidates for the coming Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls in New Delhi after the party's Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting on March 10 and 11.

The state level core committee headed by state BJP president Keshri Nath Tripathi would meet here after Holi possibly on March 7 to decide on the panel of three candidates for each constituency.

The panels would be sent to the CEC to finalise the candidate in the presence of national party president Rajnath Singh.

The core committee comprises senior leaders like Kalyan Singh, the projected chief ministerial candidate, legislator party leader Lalji Tandon, Rajya Sabha members Vinay Katiyar and Kalraj Mishra, Om Prakash Singh and general secretary (organisation) Ram Das.

According to BJP sources here, the screening of candidates was being done even before the UP polls were announced. By the time of the poll announcement, about half of the constituencies had already been discussed upon.
