Marathi encyclopedia's 18th edition to be published soon

Kolhapur, Mar 2 (UNI) The 'Marathi Vishwakosh (Encyclopedia) Nirmitee Mandal' has undertaken the work of bringing out 18th edition of the Marathi encyclopedia.

An announcement to this effect was made by Mandal President Dr Vijaya Wad today where she told reporters that the 17th edition of the 893-page Marathi encyclopedia, comprising of 783 entries, around 300 black and white and colour photographs and 44 photo - letters prepared by the Mandal, was released by Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh on February 12 this year.

Another publication 'Kumar Vishwakosh', focusing on subjects like life, environment and other issues will be released in November. And 'Maharashtra Kanyakosh', an encyclopedia for young girls covering women achievers in various spheres in Maharashtra, will be published shortly.

The Mandal has planned a 'Vishwakoshraj' competition for various students here tomorrow, she added.

Carcass of panther found in Junagadh

Junagadh, Mar 8 (UNI) A Carcass of a panther has been recovered from Sasan in Kamleshwar dam area of Gir forest. Forest department officials have sent the carcass for post mortem to the Sasan Veterinary Hospital after it was found yesterday, sources said. The officials said they did not suspect any foul play behind the death of the panther and added that the animal died of old age. UNI.....

Illegal auction of trees thwarted in Anand

Anand, Mar 8 (UNI) A team from the collector's office today raided an open auction held for trees felled illegally on the Petlad-Sunav road and seized the wood and 102 vehicles, 25 tractors and 77 camel carts. The team led by Mamlatdar B K Patel and his deputy V K Mehta and police officials at 0630 hours today held the raid. Though the wood was confiscated the vehicles were released later after a fine of Rs 1.2 lakh was collected......

Two killed after truck skids off

Jamnagar, Mar 9 (UNI) Two persons were killed when a truck in which they were travelling skidded off the road near Laiyra village, 50 km from here, on the Rajkot-Jamnagar highway early today. Police said the mishap occurred when the truck, registered in Rajasthan, was overtaking a stationary luxury bus bound for Dwarka. The unidentified bodies are that of the truck driver and cleaner, police said, adding that the bodies have been sent to a nearby government hospital for post-mortem......
