Lalu announces cash reward to 5 lakh group 'D' employees

Vadodara, Mar 1 (UNI) Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today announced a cash reward of Rs 400 each to all group 'D' employees in appreciation of their good work.

Mr Prasad announced the cash award to five lakh employees of the Indian railways, following a discussion with National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR) General-Secretary M Raghavaiyah this evening.

According to NFIR joint seretary J G Mahurkar, the Minister also donated Rs 5 crore to the Railway Staff Benefit Fund (SBF), which is used for the welfare of group 'D' employees.

The other sops announced for the railwaymen included Rs 25 lakh each for railway's sports institutes and officers club, Mr Mahurkhar, also the General-Secretary of the Western Railway Mazdoor Sangh (WRMS), said.

While presenting the railway budget for 2007-08, the minister had announced that railways had made a record profit of Rs 20,000 last year.

HC refers nursery admission matter to Ganguly committee

New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today referred the issue relating to the entry age of a child to nursery class to the Ganguly Committee for its recommendations. A Division Bench of Chief Justice M K Sharma and Justice Sanjeev Khanna said the Ganguly Committe headed by CBSE Chairman Ashok Ganguly would look into the matter and submit its report by March 31.
