Indian charged with forging certificate to practice medicine

Dubai, Mar 2 (UNI) An Indian national has been charged with forging an academic certificate to practice medicine in the emergency department of a hospital in Qatar's capital Doha for more than three years.

A Doha court released him yesterday from jail until the next hearing on May one, but he has been barred from leaving Qatar.

The 38-year old man, whose name has not been disclosed, was working in the emergency section of Hamad General Hospital from July 2003 to August 2006, before he was arrested.

Public Prosecution said, the man had worked in Saudi Arabia before coming to Qatar ''and he was among a group of doctors, who were sacked from service by the Saudi authorities for the very same reason''.

''The accused submitted a certificate issued by the Kashmir University but a cross-check with the varsity showed that his name never figured in their records.'' The Hamad Medical Corporation has demanded that the 'imposter' pay back QR490,000 - the amount that was paid to him in salaries and allowances during his 37 months of 'service' with the corporation.

The wife of the accused told Gulf Times that it was a matter of time before her husband proved his innocence.

She said she had been ''thrown out'' of the official accommodation after the case was filed against her husband. The couple have a young daughter.
